Reading the Newly Established Second Chance Schools in Greece in the Framework of Basil Bernstein’s Theory

Eleni Hodolidou.

The theories of Basil Bernstein about classification and framing, and social class provide a very suitable framework for the approach and understanding of Second Chance Schools in the last two years of their experimental implementation. The paper attempts to read the European project of Second Chance Schools as ‘text’ throuhg the discourses that are produced by and for it (in-service trainings, committee meetings…), through its curricula and teaching practices of its teachers. Second Chance Schools are compared to the reference school and some useful conclusions are drawn for both.
