Service Learning in an Introduction to Management Course

Audrey Cohen.

Service Learning allows students to integrate academic study and reflective work with service to the community. This pedagogy is particularly appropriate for the study of management. The paper provides a model for incorporating service learning into an introductory management course. The paper provides a model syllabus, lists learning goals, suggests project guidelines, presents examples of community projects, discusses classroom challenges and raises ancillary issues. Management faculty in other countries can customize this "real world" learning to their own cultural and institutional settings.
