Identity and Cultural Understandings of the Professional in the School Library:: The Nomenclature Influences on K-12 learning perceptions

Dr. Betty Marcoux.

The naming of the school library professional has had significant impact on cultural understanding regarding the roles of that professional by a wide range of education related agencies and personnel. Lack of understanding and disparate nomenclature influence not only the name but the functions of these professionals to work and positively influence the learning of students K-12 today. It is anticipated that a unification of terminology/nomenclature will lead to a better understanding of the potential of this professional in terms of learning and thus facilitate the egalitarian approach to education for all students regardless of background or culture.
