Issues in the teaching of Reading for New Zealand Teachers

Harold T Shepherd.

In this workshop the results obtained by  surveying a group of more than 100  randomly selected New Zealand Primary teachers who teach reading are described. The survey asked teachers to list the issues they considered most  important in the teaching of reading.  A summary of the issues in the teaching of reading recently addressed by researchers is then presented and a critical analysis  of the differences made.  Implications for teachers, researchers and administrators are then discussed.
