A Review of Portfolio Assessment in Teacher Education

Portfolio assessment has been introduced in various levels of education and has been claimed to be one kind of authentic assessment. This paper presents a review of portfolio assessment in teacher education based on the literature available online. It first provides an overview of the theoretical background and current practice of portfolio assessment. The content focuses on the issues such as factors which affect teacher education program to consider this assessment scheme. The second part is issues arose from the process of introducing this. Finally, the effects of portfolio assessment in teacher education especially to students and teachers are discussed. From these three strands, analysis is made to have a conclusion and suggestion is provided.
