A New Era in Building Teachers' Literacy Knowledge and Strengthening Students' Achievement

Vicky Zygouris-Coe, Timothy Blair, Donna Baumbach.

In this session we will present the results of an innovative statewide model for professional development in reading. The Florida Online Reading Professional Development (FOR-PD) project is the first online project sponsored by the FL DOE for improving teaching methods in preK-12 reading instruction to FL certified teachers. This project was developed collaboratively with literacy, technology, and online learning professors and other experts, school districts, professional organizations, and teacher educators from across the state of Florida. We will discuss the impact of this standards-based and research based project that was designed with teachers', students' and policy-makers' needs in mind. We will also present evidence on the design of the model, the content, and evaluation of the entire project.
