Kathy Walker, Christina Walta and co-presenters

Department of School & Early Childhood Education, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia

  Abstract:

This paper will present an overview of how the Professional Practice project in the new Bachelor of Education course is fundamentally changing the work of initial teacher training. The program reflects a philosophical shift in how students and teachers in the field work together in partnership with the university to share teaching and learning pedagogy and theory. The paper will be co delivered by students (preservice teachers), teachers in the field, and university staff involved in the project. Some of the key elements identified through evaluation of this work in progress will be discussed:
· 'Co delivery' of theory between university staff and expert practitioners
· Sector partnerships in the program between Early Childhood and Primary schools
· Mentor and buddy relationships as the fundamental elements of student teaching practice
· The role of reflective practice
· The role of research and evaluation
