  Abstract:

This paper is about perceptions of the adult learners on factors that affect their learning namely: motivation, home environment, self discipline, the module, the intensive course and communication with lecturers. Twenty students mainly from the faculty of education, doing a two year Diploma of Education programme were interviewed and about 60 self administered questionnaire were analysed. This is a descriptive and qualitative study mainly based on the in depth interviews. The results indicated that extrinsic motivation plays an important part, besides the ability to discipline oneself to study and the way the lesson are presented in the module. The results agreed with the concept of self regulated learner in which adults can sustain the ability to go on.
