| Studies of Asia in Schools: The What, Why and How. | |||
Bronwyn Knox Catholic Education Office, Melbourne, Australia |
| Abstract: | |||
The session will involve participants in an interactive teacher professional development activity designed to explore knowledge, perceptions, experiences and misconceptions about the countries and peoples of Asia. This forms a basis for considering the implications and potentials for studies of Asia curriculum design and implementation in the school sector. The session will provide an overview of the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria's Asian Languages and Studies in Australian Schools (ALSAS) strategy to illustrate one education system's utilisation of targeted Commonwealth funding aimed at developing an increased level of 'Asia literacy' in Australian society. |
