| Abstract: | |||
Livewire Megabytes is a new Australian multimedia Literacy Programme for Middle Years, students. While appealing to all students, it particularly addresses the learning styles and needs of boys. The first two packs cover Literacy through Media and Literacy through Science. They each contain five graded readers, the first in cartoon format and the last is a full chapter book. The books involve the reader as a participant in the story through problem solving activities which help the characters achieve their goals. The stories are set in cyberspace and interweave real issues with fantasy settings and creatures, including computer mice that come to life. Accompanying the readers is a photocopiable Task Book for teachers which supplies the information and BLMs which students will need to complete the Tasks. There is also a CDRom of Literacy-based Tasks which will allow students to consolidate their Literacy skills. The Workshop will look at ways of using the material in the Year 5 and 6 classroom. |
