| Abstract: | |||
This paper will show how English is taught at university levels in China. I will use an authentic text, presenting how I teach vocabulary, grammatical structures. I will also introduce sociocultural differences between the attitude toward the senior citizens, comparing the appropriate birthday behaviours and the strategies used. In addition, I will teach how to develop students critical reading ability. This includes to be able to identify the implied meaning of the text, the reliability of the text, i.e. whether it presents a typical social behaviour or an exceptional case, the intention of the writer and the editors. The aim of the class is to develop students communicative competence in real life situations. |
