The 10 Myths of Online Education

Abstract:

There are a range of commonly misunderstood issues in teaching and learning online - such as the view that staff workloads increase; that teaching online is of less value than offline; that all online environments are the same; and that online necessarily means only making use of the Internet. This paper uses the results of published research together with the author's first-hand experience in both designing and administering a wide range of online learning environments to debunk these myths and in so doing, outline a pragmatic approach to the effective design and use of online education and training.
