Children + Internet + Mathematics = NRICH

Abstract

The NRICH Project arose out the need to provide resources and support for pupils with high interest and ability in mathematics. The internet offered the facilities for interaction and communication between the 'providers' and the 'users' of the enrichment material. The 'providers' are a dedicated team of educators, mathematicians, computer scientists and support staff based at Cambridge University. The main 'users' are young people ranging in age from five to nineteen years and their teachers, from all over the world. This presentation outlines the rapid development of the NRICH Online Maths Club (http://nrich.maths.org) and highlights some of the special features that have contributed to its success It also presents some unexpected outcomes from the website's operation and the exciting future prospects that have emerged.
