Adolescents Sexual Education and their Information Sources in Mexico

Abstract

This paper presents results of a regional study about sexuality in Mexican south frontier accomplished between 1997-2000 and where from Tabasco state were applied 2,436 surveys and 65 in-depth interviews to adolescent from 12 and 19 years old. We analyzed, quantitative and qualitatively, information sources and the sexual education assets with which count the youth of Tabasco and identified they construct opinions in connection with their sexual knowments. We identify the problem of the sources of information beyond mere use of the mass media and sexual knowments as daily pedagogies that break, with a extended idea: correspondence between information and sexual conduct modification. The sexuality is understood as a field of complex sociocultural meanings on which adolescents articulate practical, representations and particular narratives that they should be present in the sexual education designs.
