Learning and Acting in a Worldwide Economic and Social
Context:
Global Learning in Vocational Training and Adult Education
Abstract
Global education is a set of educational approaches
that can be applied to meet the challenges of globalisation.
Trainees and employees should be capable of dealing with existing
and future changes and problems that will dominate the 21st century.
But how do we qualify trainees and staff to communicate adequately
with clients and colleagues from a completely different cultural
background? What is the significance of fair trade? How can we
buy, produce and consume in such a way that we preserve the earth
and existing resources and allow others an acceptable standard
of living? How should we take human rights and ethic standards
into consideration when we do business?
The purpose of the workshop is to reflect how didactics and methods
of development education, peace education, intercultural education
, human rights education, environmental education and ecumenical
learning can contribute to professional attitudes and cross curricular
competencies that qualify for a "better" (business)
world according to the Agreements of the Rio Conference (Agenda
21).
