Community Development, Education and Globalisation
Abstract This workshop explores issues and themes central to community development, education, globalisation and multiculturalism. It will explore through a multimedia interactive workshop how Australian community development students in South India learn in the field from local grass roots community activists and workers as part of a flexible self-paced and independent learning process. The workshop will explore the dynamic nature of indigenous forms of community action and its role in producing change both within the nation state and in the world as a whole. It will examine how RMIT learners grapple with the roles that civil society organisations play in creating sustainable change both within the local and global context. By applying principles and strategies learned in the South Asian context to work place based projects in Australia, students confront their multiple identities as national, regional and global agents of change.
