Abstract This paper revolves round a pilot project, funded by the DfEE (Department for Education and Employment) in the U.K, to test the effectiveness of electronic resources in enhancing the teaching of Latin at Key Stage 3 (students 12/13 years old). The paper describes and analyses the circumstances in which these resources have been used. These circumstances reflect a number of different pedagogical environments ranging from teaching conducted by Latin specialist teachers to independent learning of Latin for students who study on their own at home. The paper also focuses on pupils' initial perspectives on the use of electronic resources, implications for distance learning of Latin, and on the emergence of a broadening conceptualisation of 'literacy' evident in the data. Bionote Panos Seranis recently completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge. He was appointed Research Associate at the University, working on the Cambridge Online Latin Project. His research interests fall within literary theory and its implications for the teaching of classical literature and the use of new technologies in Classics teaching.
