Structured Learning on the Job is a Key Factor in Today's Workplaces

Abstract

The introduction of competency based training and assessment into the workforce heralded the restructure of training and assessment for Australian workers. Restructuring the workplace to incorporate competency based training for workers has had profound results on: the upskilling of the workforce, the motivational drive of workers to be awarded qualifications within the workplace, and the emergence of partnerships between educational institutions and industry. This paper will highlight and discuss the establishment of effective assessment procedures, including recognition of prior learning, to ensure and promote the value of workplace learning. Strategies used to link workplace assessment to effective learning within organisations will be explored through practical examples and case studies. The case studies chosen to demonstrate the benefits linking assessments to learning and the recognition of workplace qualifications will reflect a variety of organisations and industries in Australia and overseas to maintain relevance for the delegate.
