Multimedia Presentation System (MPS) Support for Learning and Teaching in Virtual Environment

Abstract

This paper discussed the current information related to multimedia presentation system (MPS) support for learning and teaching in virtual environment or virtual classroom with several ideas and issues including implementation part such as instruction, interaction, learner and lecturer support, and facilitation to distribute material. Method to implement virtual learning and teaching is the combination of traditional (face-to-face) and on-line class that we called hybrid. The virtual environment is learning and teaching constructed with the integration of technology such as hardware and software, which supports collaborative and distributed learning among lecturers or students who participate at times and place of their choosing through computer communication networks. Most virtual classrooms are implemented in Web-based concept. The specific tools used are electronic mail, chat via Internet, on-line audio and video lectures and forum to support learners and lecturers in facilitating course material and administering assignments, tutorials or announcement to students. The virtual environment has a different learning method that will provide live interaction between lecturers and students via audio/video connection as well as self-study course material. Implementation of virtual classroom deals with primary issues including technology selection, instruction methods and strategies to increase interactivity between lecturers and students.
