The Purpose of Education: Rethinking

 

Abstract

Education actually suppose to be a strong fort within individual self of student. A good education which is can produce a talented, willing and aware individual towards his obligation. A good education to a student make him a good worker, citizen and person. How can this happen? Education for future should focus on developing creative and thinking minds. Education suppose to educate an individual to be able to handle the process of change. A person with a good education should be understand the changes and work positively with the changes rather than fearing or opposing it. With the new information technology, the education should reflect the current thinking and idea in education. The prospectus need to be upgraded which taking into consideration the changes and allowing the flexibility. New education should focus on cultivating the development of man. The important of religion and humanistic values should be highlighted. New education should reform the idea of teacher as the supplier of knowledge instead the students should be encouraged to develop their own way and carry out their own effort to explore the world of knowledge under the teacher guidance. For example, in using the new technologies, self-instructional element should be encouraged. Therefore, in order to change the purpose of education in shaping new kinds of worker or citizen or personal identities, the education system should be more flexible to cater different levels of intelligent. The education system should not static and only concentrate on standard practice. The effective education should give attention to the development of mind and personality.
