The Influence of Learning and Study Strategies
on Students' Academic Achievement
Abstract
An assessment of the influence of various students' learning
strategies on students achievement and the influence of the peer
group on these strategies was conducted in the District of Temerloh
in the State of Pahang, Malaysia. The study involved 50 Form
Four students (16 males and 34 females). The various learning
strategies was assessed by the Learning and Study Strategies
Inventory (Weinstein et al. 1987). Students academic achievement
were assessed by the Malaysian School Certificate (MCE) result
(equivalent to A-level). The test was given before the project
started and after the final stage of the project. It was assumed
that the Menara Gading Project would assist students to improved
their learning strategies and these would affect their achievement.
It is also assumed that peer group would have influenced on students
learning strategies. The results are discussed with reference
to the Malaysian educational context.
