School Accountability and Organisational Learning
Abstract Accountability requirements for schools and school
systems are increasing in most countries. In Victoria, Australia
during the last decade a sophisticated school accountability
framework has been developed. From the outset, this has been
explicitly linked to school development planning. This paper
and presentation will describe the framework and link this to
current views of organisational learning. The accountability
framework can be viewed as a systemic requirement that provides
schools with organisational learning tools and processes to better
serve the needs of their school communities. David Gurr is a lecturer in Educational Administration at the University of Melbourne, in Victoria, Australia. He has current research interests in school leadership, school accountability, and the impact of information and communication technology on schools and school systems. He is a member of the committee of the Victorian branch of the Australian Council of Educational Administration (ACEA) and editor of the ACEA journal Leading and Managing and publication Hot Topics.
