The Impact of European Settlement on the Aboriginal Peoples of South Australia

Abstract:

The Impact of European Settlement on the Aboriginal Peoples of South Australia is a multi-media assisted historical role play. Based on the Aboriginal Education Unit's 'Role Play of Aboriginal History' it was

originally developed for secondary students but has also been successfully used - on request- with groups as varied as the Justice Department, schools principals, inmates at detention centres, police cadets, arts community and

the Magistrates Courts. The program explores the history of South Australia since settlement from an Aboriginal perspective. Role play participants are placed in the position of the Aboriginal owners and experience the impact of European settlement/invasion. Historical images, music, Aboriginal voices, and video support the telling of this story.
