Abstract

This paper is for educators who are interested in the teaching and learning issues regarding boys and literacy learning. It presents one school's approach in Australia dealing with the overwhelming number of issues related to poor literacy performance through a professional development program for teachers based on a broader definition of literacy that takes into account the complex interrelated elements of class, ethnicity, gender, race and socio economic background.
