The Writing Workshop: Revisiting Teacher Decision-Making in the Writing Conference

Abstract

This workshop will use research conducted in both a first and a fourth grade primary school classroom, as well as the presenter's own and former fifth grade classroom - all situated in the midwest region of the United States. The research will be used to explore a teacher's own decision- making process in the unscripted writing conferences/ conversations they share with young writers. These research findings will be used to stimulate conversations that are intended to assist teachers and researchers in understanding their own classroom writing efforts. Additionally, this workshop will aid teachers and researchers as we reconsider the facilitation of the writing process in the new millennium.
