Instruction via Distance Learning Does Not Compromise Quality!

Abstract

The intent of the study was to investigate the learning outcomes of teaching in a distance learning environment as compared to that of a traditional setting. The sample consisted of two groups: (a) a control group, who received instruction by traditional means (n=11) and (b) an experimental group, who receive instruction via a compressed video distance learning environment (n=36). The total sample consisted of students participating in an Educational Research course at a Midwestern research university (n = 47). To assure comparability, the two groups were taught by the same instructor at the same time of year. Achievement was measured by total number of points earned in the semester. A t -test indicated that there was no significant difference between the two groups.
