Abstract

In recent years much emphasis has been placed on standards- based educational reform throughout the United States. The Center for the Study of Standards-Based Educational Reform was established in 1999 at Coastal Carolina University in order to conduct research dealing with standards-based reform especially in the State of South Carolina. This paper will report the results of three studies recently conducted by the Center. The studies each involve middle level education, student diversity, and selected variables related to success on the South Carolina assessment system. The studies will be analyzed and compared with significant commonalities noted.
