Students' Changing Perceptions of Teaching and Learning
in the Transition from a Traditional to an Online Curriculum

Abstract

In this paper, we describe students perceptions of teaching and learning and how they changed during the transition from a traditional face-to-face curriculum to an online curriculum. Students in the Bachelor of Science (Aviation) commence first year studies in a traditional curriculum characterised by lectures, tutorials and laboratory work. In their second and third years of study, teaching and learning in the aviation courses occurs increasingly in an online environment. Upon completion of their first year of study Aviation students were interviewed to report their experience of first year and their expectations of online teaching and learning in second year. They were again interviewed upon completion of their second year to revisit their earlier expectations and report their experiences of learning online.
