Implementing the First Pilot Program of Distance Learning Between two Elementary Schools in Cyprus: Workout of the Teaching Methodology

Abstract:

The purpose of this work is to introduce the first pilot program on Distance Learning, which was conducted between two elementary schools in Cyprus, to the academic community. Through application of teleconference and as part of Oikade Programme - Electronic trips home (www.oikade.gr), the pupils and teachers of the two schools that participated in the program were able to experience the idea of virtual school and particularly the new technologies of communications and information, in the classroom and under real conditions. The main points of this work are the methodology workout and the implementation stages of the Distance Learning procedures, with the detailed presentation of the selected teaching methodology as the focal point. This program is a result of the cooperation between the Ministry of Education of Cyprus, the Department of Computer Science of the University of Cyprus, and the Bank of Cyprus.

Bionote

Panagiotes Anastasiades is a visiting lecturer in the department of Computer Science of University of Cyprus. In 1999 he claims his thesis under the title: "The Information Society - A socio-psychological approach." to the Department of Psychology at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, with an excellent grading. He has worked for a series of years in the private sector and particularly in the financial economics and education sectors. His academic and research interests include social and education informatics, open and distance learning, theories of information society etc.
