ABSTRACT
Children enter the education cycle excited and enthusiastic
about learning but sadly not all children accomplish the success
they expect, especially in the area of reading. This can lead
to groups of children who can't read, do not like reading and
who don't read. Fortunately we have been able to witness the
glow in the eyes and the bounce in the step when children achieve
success and the understanding that reading can be FUN! We have
seen that if you can open the door to literacy attainment for
children, there is an enormous growth in self-esteem and confidence
in their own abilities, leading to success. We have a dream that
many more children will choose to read and become RAPT in Reading.
This interactive workshop will focus participants' attention
on Multiple Intelligences and teaching to children's strengths.
The Multiple Intelligences framework provides the opportunity
to tap into children's dominant intelligences which may be other
than the verbal linguistic (the traditional way for teaching
reading). Participants will be engaged in a series of practical
activities in each of the intelligences that can be easily implemented
in a range of settings immediately.
Presentation format: Workshop (90 minutes) - Interactive
workshop where participants are actively involved in practical
strategies that can be implemented immediately.
Short biography: Beth Wood & Glenda Jorgensen are
