Language/Literacy Program - a process that develops all areas
of literacy for students aged from 4-adults
Ann Morrice
Literacy Consultant, Book Power Australia, Lindfield, Sydney,
Australia.
Abstract
Since 1994 this process, which is based on oral language development
has been trialed and implemented in pre schools, primary and
high schools, and aboriginal communities across Australia and
New Zealand. In all cases increased literacy has resulted. This
workshop will showcase examples of writing which have been achieved
across the broad spectrum of learners exposed to this teaching
process. It will explain the theoretical basis for its success,
highlighting current world thought on developing literacy in
the classroom. Finally the session will explain the process itself
and its ramifications for the classroom. This will be supported
by data and videos , which reflect the classroom practice. The
process has support from the NSW and QLD Governments, and has
a grant from the Anangu Education Service to work with the Aboriginal
people in remote central South Australia .Colin Tatz, a prominent
researcher in Aboriginal Adolescent suicide has tabled a report
in parliament which supports this process when working with aboriginal
students.

COMMENTS/NOTES: I have been a speaker a the last two Lern
conferences and would like to expand on the work that I presented
in the past. The past two years have enabled me to implement
this process broadly and to refine my work to enable greater
success with students.
