Planning for individual differences using Multiple Intelligences
Lynda Cutting
Yarra Valley Grammar School, Ringwood, Victoria, Australia
Abstract
Catering for different learning styles and paces of learning
is one of the great challenges for teachers. The theory of Multiple
intelligences that has been presented by Howard Gardner has provided
teachers with a way of understanding the different learning styles
and needs of their students. To take advantage of this theory,
as teachers we must change the way we think about teaching and
learning. We must broaden both the strategies we use in teaching
and range of learning outcomes that we plan for and encourage
in our students.
This workshop would provide a brief background of the theory
of Multiple intelligence and then show how it can be applied
in the classroom to provide for a wide range of learning styles.
Participants will see examples of the theory used with students
and gain practical experience in planning and implementing the
theory of Multiple intelligences to cater for and extend the
wide variety of learning styles found in the classroom.
