Abstract
A person's learning style is their preferred way of perceiving,
thinking, remembering and reasoning. Learning style
is a term which recognises and encompasses a number of factors
which influence the aspects of an individual's learning. The
style tends to be relatively stable and is the interaction of
the individual's characteristic affective, cognitive and physiological
behaviours and the learning environment.
An understanding of such individual differences can help the
teacher and/or parent become far more effective in helping children
learn. For example, a child who has a very strong preference
for the visual channel will gain far more benefit from teaching
strategies, activities and games which fully utilise that strength
rather than receiving information aurally.
This interactive workshop will offer practical activities
and ideas for the full exploitation of individual learning styles
in order to facilitate the acquisition of literacy skills.
