Teaching Literacy Through TechnologyTina Sharpe, Consultant, The Association of Independent Schools of NSW Ltd. AbstractThis paper will present two approaches to the use of technology for teacher professional development in the area of literacy. It will present two CDROM packages developed through the national Professional Development Program NSW Consortium. The first CDROM focuses on language and literacy in the middle years of schooling. It addresses four areas - Writing to Learn, Talking to Learn, Reading to Learn and School Based Initiatives. Opportunities for individual and group learning are incorporated into this interactive and nonlinear hyperlinked environment. The second CDROM focuses on the application of information skills and processes and the tools of critical literacy to CDROM and Internet texts. It focuses on the nature of the information process when it is applied to electronic environments. The project also includes a focus on school management issues associated with working across classrooms and libraries in primary and secondary school environments. |
