Further Education. Rethinking Curriculum

Abstract

The workshop will present for discussion and comment, conceptual work exploring the development of a further education framework being undertaken by the Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board (Victoria). In the context of the National Training Framework and the concomitant reforms to accreditation and curricula, the development of a further education framework has been identified as a priority area by the ACFE Board. It is the ACFE Board's view that the reforms to accreditation and curricula provide the ACFE system with an opportunity to identify key issues for shaping long term policy and to 'stake the territory' and consider the possibilities for designing ACFE curricula and how ACFE may more effectively inter relate with VET. It is hoped that the work to date will provide a critical reading of:

  • the purpose and nature of the framework and the different contexts of possible use;
  • the relationship between language, literacy and numeracy and the further education outcomes;
  • the key organising concepts of the further education framework;
  • existing and potential clients and
  • possible means of recognition and pathways
