Maree Klesch, David Morgan and Ferdi Klesch, Batchelor College, Northern Territory.

Abstract

'Territory Voices' is a resource package developed to support Adult Indigenous Australians who live in remote communities in the NT. The resource package focuses on learning English aa a second language at an introductory level through community negotiated context.

The workshop session will outline the development of an interactive multimedia package designed to provide opportunities for students to practise learning the structure of English as a second language. The package consists of a computer assisted language learning component and text based resources which complete the learning cycles. The development team will discuss:

  • Why use CD ROM?
  • Consultation and negotiating of content and learning activities with clients
  • Moving from language theory to resource development
  • Development of interactive instructional design that utilises elements as negotiated with clients
  • Programming, hardware and software issues
  • Evaluation of resources

A brief show and tell will be followed by an opportunity to participate in workshop activities related to the above issues.
