Charles Khoo and Tze Ay Chuah, International Student Services Consortium, NSW TAFE Clovelly, NSW

Abstract

Shifts brought on by workplace restructuring and niche marketing has placed a premium on culture and communication. However, the realities of diversity are often not adequately considered.

This workshop will explore a range of issues and strategies in conducting workshops where cultural diversity is a central consideration. A number of training approaches will be examined. Some of the following issues will be explored: cross-cultural communication, prejudice and what constitutes best practice in cross-cultural training. Strategies to challenge the awareness, knowledge and skills of your participants in training session will be demonstrated through the use of various activities.
