Models for Delivery of ESP CoursesJan Kennedy, Senior Education officer, TAFE Multicultural Education Unit, Ashfield, NSW. AbstractSeveral models have been developed under the Advanced English for Migrants Program (AEMP). This program provides training in vocational English to enable people from non-English speaking background to access further study in TAFE, gain employment and to utilise their skills gained overseas. Most courses piloted under this program have become fully accredited and are now offered as standard TAFE courses eg. English for Further Studies (EFS). The models include mainly language based content with some accredited vocational modules, mainstream certificates in conjunction with language and work orientation based support, Work Skills Certificate with multistranded vocational electives, on the job training and flexible deliver patterns. In addition there are bridging/refresher models which are industry specific aimed at enabling overseas professional and trades people to work in their area of expertise. This presentation will give details of these models and situations in which they are most appropriately used. |
