Observations on Student Receptiveness Towards an Indigenous Teaching Style and World View Perspective in the ClassroomDr Stephen Greymorning, College of Indigenous Australian Peoples, Southern Cross University Lismore, NSW. AbstractFor well over a century Indigenous North Americans have been forced to adapt to Anglo-European perspectives on how Indigenous children must be educated and what they should be taught. Over the past 25 years North American Colleges and Universities have experienced growing numbers of Indigenous faculty teaching Indigenous focused subjects. As an Indigenous North American (American Indian) I have taught classes at the University of Alberta in Canada, the University of Montana in the United States, and now at Southern Cross University in New South Wales. This presentation will examine students responses and receptiveness when finding themselves enrolled in Native North American Studies courses taught from an Indigenous world view perspective. |
