Abstract

Demonstration of computer assisted language learning kit "LITERACY ENCOUNTERS" (Meeting the Literacy Needs in English of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Adults in Isolated Regions)

LITERACY ENCOUNTERS consists of a CD ROM computer assisted learning package, five books and five videos depicting indigenous people interacting in the five contexts below, modelling literacy skills of speaking, listening, reading, writing and critical thinking. Language and the Law, Good Food for Diabetics, Maths in the Supermarket, Buying a Dinghy, Dealing with Social Security.

LITERACY ENCOUNTERS was produced by the Remote Access Training and Education Project as part of the Australian Language and Literacy Policy funded by DEETYA.
