Baltic Region Knowledge: An Interdisciplinary High School Course for Swedish and Russian Students

Abstract

The municipality of Norrtelje has a long term programme for re - establishing the contacts between north western Russia and the "new" Baltic States.

As a part of the programme Rodengymnasiet, gives the course Baltic region knowledge. The course is also given at school no 412, Peterhof, Russia.

Main curriculum:

  • Peoples of the Baltic, cultures and history.
  • The Baltic sea environment.

Features of the course:

First semester in English, students from Sweden, Russia, Estonia and Latvia in the group.

  • Interdisciplinary studies.
  • Project oriented studies, students take a grate part in planning.
  • Training in seeking information outside school, including Internet, universities NGO's etc.
  • Internet publishing.
  • E-mail contact with students in Russia.
  • Writing a "special report" within the frames of the course.
  • and as a finale: travel to Russia.
